BREAKING THROUGH
These oil paintings on metal are a progression from my Light on the Horizon series, moving now into colour and a more optimistic, expansive energy… like a breath finally released.
The series explores the quiet, powerful moments when light asserts itself against the weight of darkness. Each painting captures the brink of transformation - the suspended instant when a horizon shifts, when colour bleeds forward, and when something long-obscured finally emerges.
Working on metal allows the surface to hold and reflect light in unpredictable ways, giving the paintings an inner radiance that changes with the viewer’s movement and the room’s shifting light. Soft veils of colour - rising reds, bruised greys, and sulphuric yellows - drift and dissolve into one another, creating landscapes that hover between the real and the imagined. The reflective base subtly mirrors the surrounding environment, inviting the viewer into an intimate dialogue with the work.
Having recently received my all-clear, this new direction feels especially meaningful, a real sense of breaking through on many levels.
