iMouse - inspired by the research of Dr Chris Heath who used iPads to facilitate translational neuroscience research ie mice get to play with iPads in a dark space and get rewarded with milkshakes! This reminded me of my boys when they were teenagers so my Creative Reaction is the view of a black mouse seen through an iPad, peering blearily at the symbols, trying to decide which symbols yields the reward.

We See You - inspired by the work of Dr Louise Oni on the UK Kidney Ecosystem. I wanted to show how Dr Oni’s passion for helping children with kidney disease brings light and hope. This artwork is based on a microscopic section of a kidney biopsy, with the child encapsulated inside the glomerulus, and each surrounding tuft intricately woven to symbolise the collaborative efforts of the 12 paediatric nephrology centres working together to help children with rare kidney diseases.

Fat Genes - inspired by Dr Giles Yeo’s research linking obesity to gene makeup. My first Creative Reaction is an ornamental, almost wallpaper like painting, where slim figures leap over temptingly gorgeous cupcakes with ease. And when you take a closer look you will notice overweight figures, struggling and unable to remove themselves from the midst of the cupcakes. In his research, Dr Yeo has found that Labradors have a genetic variant which makes them eat constantly. I portray this food obsession by using one of his research papers as the background, linking a labrador to food.
